Kinda Like My Mother

“TT, it’s Mother’s Day.

Ida Pearl is missing! I’m worried about her.”

Stubb, You’re the Best Medicine I Could Have.

That old gal is probably sleeping. Old people are snorers, nibblers, and nappers.

“Be nice TT. Ida Pearl is  kinda like my Mother.”

You don’t look like her. Who would want her wild hair and little, watery  eyes?

“Shame on you! Get over your MEANS!”

Sorry Stubb, I’m sick of being a TALKING TUMMY.

“Think about Ida Pearl and forget about YOU.”

The Sunshine Senior Center still has orange plastic tape blocking the entryway. Looks like Shelter in Place is here forever!

Remember, your mistake Stubb! It’s not Shelter in Face, he he he!

I sneak in through the side door and squeeze behind a sofa.

Hmm, I see lots of  people wearing masks. “TT, maybe we could hide behind a mask.”‘

What about PIG-OUTS? You’re CRAZY!!!

I creep out from behind the sofa. There’s a mask on the cushion! I jump up on the sofa and stick my nose inside. I rub and wiggle my head until it fits.

That silly mask won’t hide you! It’s NO DOGS ALLOWED!!

I hug the wall and  move quickly toward Ida Pearl’s open door.

TT screams,  Ida Pearls in bed! Let’s get out of here!

“No! I’m going to check on  her. She’s kinda like my Mother.”

I ignore TT and jump up on the bed.

Her eyes pop open. ” You’re wearing a mask!” She laughs and hugs me.                     “Stubb, I’ve been fighting the virus. I won the battle, and I’m feeling better.”

I lick her hand and slide under the covers. Ida Pearl sighs, “You’re the very best medicine I could have.” She scratches my ears. “My fuzzy, warm cuddler.”

Ida pushes me farther under the covers when the nurse brings lunch. TT is humming. He gives a delighted gurgle and a rumble.

She slips my mask off. “I bet you’re hungry.”I gobble a ham and cheese sandwich, and I nibble on yummy french fries.

“Stubb, you gave me a wonderful Mother’s Day! My family called but we didn’t talk very long. Now I’m ready for an escape to the park.”

I give Ida a good-bye lick on her nose. She wraps her little arms around me. Her wild white hair tickles my nose. My heart sings. I slip out of the bed and  hurry down the hall. I  rush to the side door. It’s closed!

TT whines, Help! We’re in trouble! I will not go to the dog pound.

A nurse stops and stares. I sit up, wave my paws at her, and smile.

She laughs. “Hey Dude! You’ve made my day.”

She opens the door. I do my best Squish-Plop Walk and my tail waves good-bye.

Kids, have a  Happy Mom’s Day. Give Her a hug.

Stubb and TT
